Accommodation

Housing Options

The English College of Adelaide can arrange three types of accommodation: homestay, share and off-campus dormitory accommodation.

The ECA Accommodation Officer visits all new homestay/share families as well as dormitory facilities to ensure that accommodation available for students is of good quality. ECA maintains close relationships with each homestay/share family and keeps in regular contact with both family and student during the student’s stay.

Homestay Accommodation

Homestay accommodation offers students the opportunity to live with an Australian family and learn about Australian lifestyle, food and culture. In addition, students are able to practice their English with their new family.

Homestay accommodation includes a furnished bedroom, 3 meals a day (including a packed lunch), all utility expenses and laundry services. Students will spend time with the host family on a daily basis and participate in family activities.

Homestay accommodation is priced at $280* per week

*Fees subject to change

Share Accommodation

Share accommodation is popular with students who are over 18 years old and more independent. Students are provided with their own furnished bedroom, and all utility expenses (gas, electricity and water) are covered. Students are required to buy their own food, cook, clean and do their own laundry. Students will need to pay for their telephone usage.

Share accommodation costs an average of $190 per week (including utilities).

*Fees subject to change

Off-Campus Dormitory Accommodation

Off-campus dormitory accommodation arranged by ECA may suit students who are over 18 years old and more independent. Students have their own furnished bedroom, but share a bathroom, kitchen and lounge with other boarders. Students are required to buy their own food, cook, clean and do their own laundry.

Off-campus dormitory accommodation costs an average of $145-315/week* and a bond is usually required in advance.

Accommodation for Students Under the Age of 18 Years

ECA has strict rules for under 18 students residing in our homestay accommodation. Extra duty of care responsibilities for under 18 students are carefully explained to the host family, the student and the student’s parents. These rules and responsibilities are also outlined in a written contract, which is signed by both the student and host family.

The ECA Accommodation Officer visits under 18 student’s host families once a term to ensure that an appropriate homestay environment is maintained during the students’ studies. An emergency after hours telephone number is also given to host families.
